Mr X Appeal

We have just participated in the Mr X Appeal for the 3rd year running.

Toward the end of 2008, it was decided that Glan-y-Môr should participate in the Mr X appeal.
The Mr X appeal works by getting people of all ages to club together to buy Christmas presents for needy local children.
No one knows who Mr X is, but the mystery man assigns schools, offices and individuals a child or children to buy gifts for.
They get told the Christian name and age of the youngster, before going out and hitting the shops.
Mr X said in 2008 he had over 4,500 kids across South West Wales on his list.

Glan-y-Môr pledged to buy gifts for 2 children per form class. This gave us 44 children and Mr Jones, our Headmaster put further pressure on our pupils by telling Mr X we would give gifts to 50 local children.
Glan-y-Môr’s pupils arranged a sponsored ‘own clothes’ day and then organised, run and took part in a Christmas fair which was also attended by our partner primaries and some local friends of Glan-y-Môr. The pupils, along with their form teacher’s help then purchased appropriate gifts.

The result was far more than we could have hoped for, yet again Glan-y-Môr’s pupils exceeded our expectations. Above are our form leaders with the gifts, just before one of Mr X’s helpers came to collect them.
